Humanity: The Comprehensive Ocean of our Business

“You were always a good man of business, Jacob,” faltered Scrooge, who now began to apply this to himself.

“Business!” cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. “Mankind was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”
~Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol~

Last spring, during a Congressional hearing aired on C-Span, four women who’d been rescued from ISIS––a Yazidi, an Iraqi, a Catholic nun, and a married Christian Syrian woman––recounted the horrific atrocities perpetrated by their captors against their villages, families, and themselves: mass slaughters of men and boys, kidnappings, gang rapes, sexual slavery, and incomprehensible tortures.

Even more distressing, woven into these women’s soul-rending accounts were their perplexed and haunting questions: “Why is the world silent in the face of this genocide? Does no one see? Why won’t anyone help us? Where are the Christians? Where are the Jews?”

Who will answer? For these women are not alone! An existential lament is rising from a myriad of joining voices––not from Syria and Iraq only––but the ugly specter of visiting terror and senseless killing is eliciting this cry from the whole Middle East, Africa, Europe, and many other places around the globe.

Hateful incitements simmer discontentment into unrighteous rage, gathering supporting mobs. Violent jihad runs pandemic fanning out across the globe, swallowing in its wake Christians, Jews, and dissenting Muslims.

Inconceivable numbers of people––populations exceeding that of many cities––being slaughtered by religiously-motivated violent, terrorism, sectarian, clashes and war.
The violence overflowing Syria’s border and into Iraq has risen to one quarter million slain, with millions more fleeing and displaced.

Who among us can say, “We did not know?” Can we remain far-off spectators, quiet witnesses observing through the media from a safely detached distance? And what benefit the witness or the “knowing”, if the knowledge gained and insight dawning remains shared among ourselves but is never applied to purpose?

Surely, together, we can do something! For there is always hope, God is on the side of right and the human spirit is indomitable.

We believe our life experiences along the human journey are rarely one dimensional; everything we learn and every step we take is layered with purpose.

What we come to understand and the skills may be applied to helping others. For as brother and sisters in the family of mankind, we are each of us responsible for repairing our own portion of a broken world––as much as lies within out power.

All that’s required is a single candle of inspiration and a spirit of willingness to step forward putting what we know to action.

Just Cause International–– www.justcauseinternational.com ––was born of this inspiration. We exist to come alongside to host crowdsourcing campaigns to empower those inspired and visionary change makers willing to step forward.

We may not be able to meet every challenge or save all the suffering. In-and-of ourselves as individuals along, we’ve little power to influence change within our governments, and even less to destroy the barbarism of radical jihadist. Yet together –-pooling our collective creativity and resources––we can save some and brighten life for many!

Maybe you too share our convictions, but just don’t know what to do? We invite you to visit our website at www.justcauseinternational.com.
